There is exactly one outbound request
Once a day: GET https://chatda.dev/update/latest.json. The only thing sent with it is User-Agent: chatda-update/<version> — no cookies, no search terms, no file names, no machine name, no identifier of any kind. What comes back is four things: a version number, an installer URL, a SHA-256 and a size. Only when a newer version exists does CHATDA fetch that installer.
Two independent reasons to trust the file
First, the SHA-256 must match the one in the manifest. Second, the Authenticode signature must be valid and the signer must be PROJECTTEAMFORYOU. That name lives in the program's own code, not in the manifest — so even someone who replaces the manifest entirely cannot get an installer past it without our certificate. If either check fails, the downloaded file is deleted.
Turn it off and it really is zero
Turn it off under ⋮ More in the program, or clear the box during installation. With it off the updater is never even launched — no socket is opened. The search program has no outbound networking code to begin with: checking and downloading live in a separate chatda-update.exe, and the searcher only reads its result from a file.
